One of the best coaching questions I ever heard..
This is a short post. Because I am off to Dublin for the weekend, which means I faff ENDLESSLY about what to pack and take far too long googling the weather forecast (it’s going to be cold and wet) and pack and unpack my suitcase. Not helped by me being too frugal/tight to pay Ryanair for additional luggage and having to decant beauty products into small containers so they fit into one of those flipping clear plastic bags. My plastic bag has been reused so many times it looks almost as wrinkled as me. Someone needs to go on Dragon’s Den and come up with a better solution please.
Anyway, Dublin is calling (I’m very excited about going to see the Library at Trinity College ) and so here my friends, is a question that I have found to be one of the best coaching questions of all time.
Take a beat. Try and find somewhere quiet. Close your eyes or lower your gaze if you prefer and then ask yourself this:
What am I longing for?
You can ask this questions in relationship to your career, or your life in general, or something specific.
Longing is such a powerful word. Stronger than “want”. When I was asked this question by another coach it blew the topic we were working on wide open for me. I can’t remember who the coach was, which just goes to show that coaches aren’t that important, it’s the space we create for our clients to do the work that’s the important bit.
Anyway, there you go. Hope it blows things wide open for you (if that’s what you are longing for).
I’m off to faff about with moisturiser and ridiculously small containers. Back next week.
As always, I hope this has helped. Lisa x
