What is your perfect working day?
I love Thursdays. They are pretty much my perfect working day. I get to walk from Waterloo station, along one of my favourite streets in London, past the house that my friend Kate lived in when we were just starting out in our careers, and every time I pass it, I’m reminded of the fun we had. Spring is very much springing, and last week I passed by daffodils lolling out of window boxes and trees bursting with blossom and promises of lighter evenings to come.
I rock up at one of my client’s offices, and park myself in a boardroom. The reception staff know me now, we have a chat, and then my beautifully organised day begins. I don’t have to do anything other than coach the whole day, in person, with clients who are as different, and unique and glorious as all humans are. I get to indulge my Pret a Manger habit without feeling guilty, and I usually end the day on a complete high fizzing with joy. It’s pretty hard for me to think about how to improve my Thursdays.
When I reflect on why they are so perfect, it’s because they tick a lot of boxes for me:
I enjoy working for fast paced, commercial organisations
I enjoy working with thoughtful, fun, creative, kind, hard working, clever people who do interesting work
I like variety and difference
I like being part of a team and being trusted
I like being independent and having freedom
I like being in an office
I like my journey to work
Thinking about your perfect working day can give you a ton of information that’s useful when it comes to your career.
And this is where I put in the paywall, as this is another Firework coaching exercise for paid subscribers.
